Green separation technology is the process of separation and purification of low energy consumption, low (no) pollution, high selectivity output.
The world has entered the era of biotechnology. As the "last resort" of biotechnology industrialization, the separation and purification cost of products often account for more than 60% of the total cost, and the separation cost of high value-added products can even reach 90%.With the further development of the concept of sustainable development, the voice of green chemistry, environmentally friendly chemistry and zero-emission chemistry is increasingly strong, continuous chromatography and supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) came into being.
Continuous chromatography technology (including simulated moving bed chromatography and continuous separation and purification technology) adopts continuous operation to realize automatic production process, in which sewage production can be reduced by more than 60%.
PX project and fructose separation of sugar industry is one of the main application field of continuous chromatography in early stage of market。With the rapid development of bioconversion to develop functional sugars, from vitamin C, vitamin B12 and other vitamin series of bulk products, to functional sugar stevia, naloxone, and the separation and purification application of chiral drug，continuous chromatography has become increasingly mature.
Supercritical fluid chromatography (SFC) is to replace the traditional organic reagent in the separation and purification process with carbon dioxide, which causes greenhouse effect, as the main raw material. During the process, carbon dioxide is recycled to reduce the amount of organic reagent to more than 90%. Glaxosmithkline (GSK) has applied the technology to more than 70 percent of its pharmaceutical sector and truly realizes green chemistry. At the same time, a number of excellent CDMO enterprises in China, such as WuXi Apptec Co., Ltd., Pharmaron, Casymchem and Porton, have realized the supercritical separation process of some products.
