Continuous Chromatographic System

By implementing this approach, the utilization rate of the ion exchange column can be enhanced, resulting in increased product concentration and reduced mobile phase consumption. Moreover, it contributes to prolonging the service life of the resin, yielding long-term benefits.

Types of Continuous Chromatographic System

Simulated Moving Bed
Simulated Moving Bed
Laboratory columns and DAC (dynamic axial compression) columns are examples of Hanbon medium and high pressure chromatography columns. Hanbon created the DAC® (dynamic axial compression) column with iSMB (simulated moving bed) in 2005.
Continuous Ion Exchange Chromatography
Continuous Ion Exchange Chromatography
The standard fixed resin bed technology and the continuous counter-current system are combined to create continuous dissociation technology. Currently, it is mostly used to purify useful ingredients like sugars, antibiotics, amino acids, and natural products, among others.

What Is Continuous Ion Exchange Chromatography?

Continuous ion exchange technology was developed by combining traditional fixed resin bed technology with a continuous counter-current system. This technology combines the various traditional resin chromatography processes in one system and uses multiple separation steps running simultaneously, resulting in lower effluent discharge, lower solvent usage, and higher resin utilization. It is currently used for the purification of active components such as sugars, antibiotics, amino acids, and natural products.

Application Of Continuous Chromatography In Natural Products

In recent years, as the research on SMB technology has intensified, its application areas have been further expanded, from the separation of single petrochemical products to gradually involving fine chemicals, the sugar industry, cosmetics, and the fragrance industry. Natural products have always been the focus of the attention of scientific researchers because of their rich resources, variety, and potential active functions. However, the complex composition of natural products and the low content of active ingredients require the use of modern science and technology to establish an effective separation process in order to prepare products with clear composition, clear efficacy, and controlled active ingredient content. SMB technology has the characteristics of continuous separation, easy operation, and controlled conditions, which are of great importance for the preparation of large quantities of active ingredients of natural products. Many studies have been carried out by Chinese researchers and scholars on the extraction of active ingredients from natural products, including the separation of compounds such as flavonoids, polyphenols, amino acids, peptides, and sugars.
